Dullstroom is home to South Africa's finest trout fishing rivers. Many guest farms cater purely for the angler and provide whatever is necessary to help you catch that elusive fish!
Dullstroom also has the accolade of being the coldest place in South Africa in winter, but the trout seem to love it. The rivers were originally stocked in 1916, from hatcheries in the mountains of the Cape Winelands. The hatchlings did so well that today angling tourism and trout breeding are the most important industries here.
Like many towns in the area, Dullstroom has its Boer War memories. When it was razed to the ground the women and children were removed to a British concentration camp. Many died fighting and others died in detention. A stone memorial and garden of remembrance commemorate those terrible times.
