Spend a week meandering up the beautiful Garden Route. Taste fine wine in Stellenbosch and bungee jump off one of the world's highest bridges, watch whales in Hermanus and elephants in Addo; ride an ostrich in Oudtshoorn and eat oysters in Knysna. Your tour ends in Port Elizabeth - the 'Friendly City' on South Africa's Sunshine Coast.
- Day 1: Stellenbosch
- Itinerary
After a brief orientation you depart Cape Town and travel to the beautiful wine region of Stellenbosch. You can enjoy a relaxed lunch and then visit a selection of vineyards to sample some excellent South African wines. In whale season (between June and November) you spend the night near Hermanus, a quaint seaside town which offers the best land based whale watching in the world.
- Day 2: Oudtshoorn
- Itinerary
Leaving the coast behind you, you drive inland to see the incredible stalagmite formations in the Cango Caves. The caves lie in the Swartberg Mountain Range and the present route extends for 1.2km into the mountain, with a further 4.1km kept closed to the public for conservation reasons.
After taking a tour of this amazing natural wonder you visit an ostrich farm where you can have the opportunity to ride the largest bird in the world.
- Day 3: Knysna
- Itinerary
Returning to the coast via some lovely country roads, you arrive in the picturesque seaside village of Knysna with its sandstone cliffs, the Knysna Heads, and beautiful lagoon. There are numerous adventure activities for you to choose from or you may prefer to explore the shops in search of interesting local craft.
- Days 4-5: Tsitsikamma
- Itinerary
You start your day with a short drive to Stormsriver, your base for the next 2 nights. From here you explore the coastal region in the Tsitsikamma National Park. Tsitsikamma incorporates 80km of rocky coastline with spectacular sea and landscapes; a remote mountainous region with secluded valleys covered in mountain fynbos and temperate high forests with deep river gorges leading down to the sea.
The hiking here is some of the best anywhere and includes the option of walking the first few kilometers of the Otter Trail. Other activities available include bungee jumping, tubing and treetop tours.
- Day 6: Addo Elephant Park
- Itinerary
You spend your time in Addo Elephant National Park surrounded by these magnificent creatures. Game driving in the park allows you good opportunity to take some wonderful photos. Proclaimed a park in 1931, when only 11 elephants remained in the area, this finely tuned ecosystem is now a sanctuary to over 350 elephants, 280 Cape buffalo, black rhino and a variety of antelope species.
