The best way to get around on the Garden Route is to hire a car and do a self-drive holiday. Book your holiday through Go2Africa.com and we'll organise your car hire, route and accommodation for you.
We'll happily create a self-drive itinerary for you, or you can choose one of our tailored tours on the Garden Route.
Once in the Garden Route, day drives are not too far and can be stunning and interesting - especially when you get off the main drag. You'll want to keep your itinerary fairly flexible and relaxed, but it's a good idea to have a broad outline of what you'd like to see and do.
The roads are generally in good condition here and towns are close enough to each other to allow for many stops and things to do en route.
Keep a lookout for the farmstalls or 'padstalle' that are a feature of the South African countryside. These are great places to buy the local specialities be they homemade jams, biltong or pickles and sauces, as well as fresh produce. Most serve tea and coffee and refreshments too.
