Take the usual precautions when it comes to safety and be careful. Crime does exist in the larger towns but locals and local authorities work extremely hard to make sure tourists are safe as the tourism industry is the main source of income in the Garden Route.

Tap water is excellent and safe to drink and the Western Cape is a malaria-free area.

When you leave the national roads you'll often encounter less traffic, good road conditions and awesome scenery. A map or map book is strongly suggested.
