The Garden Route is a generally safe, easily accessible region to travel through and it lends itself to self-drive exploration.

Distances in South Africa can be deceiving and hard on you when you really want to be holidaying, but fortunately, the towns on the Garden Route aren't too far apart and each offers its own range of Garden Route accommodation. It's also a good idea to choose one town as a base and spend a few days exploring nearby attractions.

The weather along this coastline is generally mild and temperate and rain is a possibility all year-round - but the resulting lush green scenery and gentle climate mean this is a feature rather than a disadvantage.
