Garden Route » What to See & Do » Tsitsikamma

Tsitsikamma - the name means 'Place of Clear Water' - is the last bit of indigenous forest that once carpeted the whole coastline.

The Tsitsikamma National Park protects the area and is one of the most magical places in the region. The park stretches along 68 dramatic kilometres of South Africa's east coast, where the surging waves crash over rocky coastline and old hardwood forests knot the coastal cliffs.

The highlight of the Tsitsikamma National Park is the Storms River Mouth, a large and abrupt estuary over which a precarious rope-bridge is slung.

Walking is the main activity in Tsitsikamma National Park, which is the starting point of the famously spectacular Otter Trail. Go for beautiful coastal walks or more demanding hikes through dramatic scenery.
