The Drostdy Hotel is one of 220 national monuments in Graaff-Reinet, which is the oldest town in the Eastern Cape. If the foyer doors are open and you look down the street, you'll stare right into another national monument, the Reinet House.



Built in 1806 and designed by famous French architect Louis Thibault as the 'Drostdy' of the district (Drostdy being the Dutch word for magistrates court), the Drostdy Hotel has been restored to its former splendour by De Oude Meester group in 1977. Next to the swimming pool area is Stretch's Court, a cobblestone street, lined with colourful shutters and bougainvillea. You could also walk through the garden path amongst the grapefruit trees, where you'll find a unique, custom-made weather vane, which will give you distances from Cape Town to Cairo, including hotel directions.

There is also an area next to the swimming pool where dances, wedding receptions, barbecues and functions can be held. Banqueting and conference facilities are available on request. This marquee-protected pool area is ideal for larger outdoor functions.

The Drostdy Hotel also offers other venues for functions, such as the Thibault Room, which can seat 90 in the theatre, 50 in lecture and 30 in boardroom arrangements, and the Wijnkamer (a traditional V.O.C. dining room), which can accommodate 20 guests.

The original courtroom of The Landdrost in the Drostdy Hotel is now the elegant table d'hôte dining room, and 144 candles are lit in brass candelabras, reminiscent of a romantic era, 2 centuries ago. Traditional 'Boontjiesop' (bean soup), Drostdy bread and Karoo lamb are served here.

The Wijnkamer is an extension of the dining room and is often used for small, special events.

De Camdeboo is the Drostdy Hotel's à la carte restaurant, where yellow candlelight reflects in antique yellow wood tables, and where you can choose from a selection of Cape wines to add warmth to your food.

You can also enjoy light snacks, lunches, tea and drinks at the comfortable lounge and Ladies' bar, or a light snack or drink on the patio or garden.
