Greyton is a gorgeous and charming tree-shaded village in the afternoon shadow of some of the finest peaks of the Riviersonderend ('river without end') Mountain Range.

The area is well known for its spectacular hiking trails, and the Greyton-McGregor trail is punctuated by nine waterfalls and adorned by great displays of spring wild flowers.

As in Franschoek, it seems only the best restaurants and cafés survive in Greyton. On any given weekend you'll probably find Cape Town's high society dining at the popular Oak & Vigne café, which adjoins an art deco gallery that's worth your perusal. The Café Chocolat makes the gold standard of hot chocolates.
