The Great Karoo is a landscape that is vast, beautiful, and unforgiving, covering an enormous area of South Africa. The Karoo National Park, dominated by the Nuweveld Mountains and rolling plains, is just a small portion of this great and varied ecosystem. It is home to an enthralling variety of wildlife which has adapted over millions of years to survive in this arid scrubland.

The land of the Karoo National Park used to be under water and now forms a vast plateau. The park offers many activities, including day or night game viewing, walking trails (including a Braille trail), a swimming pool, and bird watching from a secluded hide.

Most National Parks offer accommodation in a variety of cottages, and the Karoo National Park has a main rest camp and a basic mountain view rest camp, plus shady grassed caravan and camping sites. The park also has a fully licensed restaurant, curio and gift shop, two information centres, laundry facilities and a public telephone.
