Self-catering accommodation in Kalahari Gemsbok Park.
Unspoilt Wilderness - Kgalagadi, meaning land of thirst, is a vast ecosystem relatively free of human influence and presents superb wildlife opportunities for observation and photography.
Hidden Away - out of sight, the hides are ideal places from which to view animals coming to drink at the waterhole.
Roaming Free - the vast 38 000km2 park allows for seasonal migration of wildlife in search of water and the free movement of predators.
Mata-Mata is one of 3 rest camps within the Kalahari Gemsbok Park, now part of Africa's 1st transfrontier park, the Kgalagadi, which also includes the Gemsbok National Park in Botswana.
The camp lies on the border with Namibia and the road leading to it follows the dry Auob River, where most of the game can be found. You can expect to see mile upon mile of rolling rust-red sand dunes, solitary trees and scattered grasses.
The park is also one of the finest areas in South Africa for viewing birds of prey. In the heat of the day, black-maned Kalahari lions shelter beneath shady bushes and leopards take refuge in the branches of camelthorn trees.
Safari activities include guided day walks and 4 x 4 trails, conditions permitting.
LocationMata-Mata Rest Camp is situated in the Kalahari Gemsbok Park, South Africa, on the Namibian border.
