Surrounded by tree savannah, Nossob Rest Camp is situated on the banks of the dry Nossob River, on the border with Botswana. The camp is located in what is now called the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, which includes the Kalahari Gemsbok Park in South Africa and the Gemsbok National Park in Botswana.
Kgalagadi means "land of thirst" and the new 38 000 kmē park represents the rare phenomenon of a vast ecosystem relatively free from human influence. This is a hauntingly beautiful region containing mile upon mile of rolling rust-red sand dunes, solitary trees and scattered grasses.
The huge park allows for seasonal migration of wildlife in search of water, and the movement of free-roaming predators. The park is one of the finest areas in South Africa for viewing birds of prey. In the heat of the day, black-maned Kalahari lions shelter beneath shady bushes and leopards take refuge in the branches of camelthorn trees, while visitors may cool off in the pool at Twee Rivieren or enjoy a refreshing drink in the restaurant.
