Situated at the confluence of the Crocodile and Komati Rivers, Komatipoort is one of the hottest towns in South Africa, with an average temperature of 26°C in winter! In summer the average temperature is 33°C.
Komatipoort also serves as a customs port because of its location near the border of Mozambique. The Nkomati Accord, a nonagrression treaty between Mozambique and the apartheid government of South Africa, was signed here in 1984 by Samora Machel and PW Botha.
