The Kosi Bay Nature Reserve is an exquisite preserve in north eastern KwaZulu Natal which surrounds the unique Kosi Bay lake system. The system comprises four lakes which drain into each other via various waterways and eventually into the sea through a sandy estuary.
The area is rich in wildlife - crocodiles, hippos and Zambezi sharks in the water systems, a magnificent coral reef teeming with exotic fish just off the coast, as well as various antelope species.
There are over 250 recorded bird species in the area, and it is possible to see the endangered leatherback turtle on the pristine beaches.
Kosi Bay is well known for its vegetation: fig and raffia palm forests and well as typically tropical mangrove swamps. It is a truly beautiful, unspoilt reserve.
