Although Kruger National Park proper is run by the South African government, various portions of the land in the reserve have been leased as private concessions, which are run in an exclusive and usually luxurious manner.
Operators set up lodges on these concessions, which are similar to the private game reserves on the western boundary of Kruger, such as Sabi Sand and Manyeleti.
The concessions are not accessible to the public, but only to guests of the private lodges. Night-drives and game walks are allowed in the private concessions where they are disallowed in public areas, making them an excellent bet for visitors who want to visit the Kruger National Park and not one of its neighbouring private reserves.
