If you're staying at a private lodge you might want to bring clothes with a little extra room around the waistline as dining is characterised by food that is as exquisite as it is abundant.
Whether a la carte or buffet, dining at a private game lodge is always a five-star affair. At the private lodges you are likely to sample everything from local game meat to African sushi.
Most private lodges offer a boma dinner (dining by campfire) every few nights, and some will even take you into the wilderness for a bush dinner, where you dine under the stars while armed rangers patrol the perimeter.
Whether you love liqueurs, are crazy about champagne or wild about wine make sure you try some of South Africa's local offerings while staying in the Kruger Park. Lodge staff will offer you a world class wine list, but they're sure to be proud to recommend South Africa's award-winning wines.
From beer to fresh boerewors (the essential ingredient for an African barbecue), the Kruger's rest camps stock all a traveller's needs. Reasonable prices and a large selection of food and drink allow visitors using the self-catering accommodation to do all their shopping at stores within the rest camps.
