Lion Sands is a family-owned and managed reserve set within the southern section of the world-famous Sabi Sands.
This private reserve has good game viewing, including the Big 5, and is unfenced so wildlife is able to move freely to and from the rest of the Kruger Park. However, since only Lion Sands guests are allowed within this 3,500 hectare reserve, your ranger won't be jostling for space with other vehicles at a sighting.
Known for luxurious accommodation, Lion Sands has 3 lodges all peacefully positioned on the banks of the Sabie River: beautiful Ivory Lodge with its massive suites, the slightly larger River Lodge and 1933 at Lion Sands - an exclusive-use lodge which is great for families or friends travelling together.
A unique experience at Lion Sands is spending a night at Chalkley Treehouse. At sunset you and your partner are taken out to this private and secluded treehouse built around a 500 year-old Leadwood Tree, for a delicious picnic dinner and night under the African stars.

Ivory Lodge
1933 at Lion Sands
"Lion Sands River Lodge: I cant speak highly enough about this place. The rooms might have been a bit small, but the game viewing, service, etc exceeded all our expectations.
"Our ranger (DJ) was excellent and we were very happy with the staff being extremely accommodating to all our needs, especially with my wife being a vegetarian. I'm generally not one for repeating a lodge/destination for a vacation, but i might have to make an exception on this place."
Gaurav Patodia, Go2Africa Traveller (June 2009)
"Everything was perfect. The service and faciltities at Lion Sands were first rate: 10 out of 10.
"Our expectations were met and, in the case of Lion Sands, exceeded."
