Many of the people who come to the Kruger Park stay in one of the 12 rest camps in the original Kruger National Park. The rest camps offer a variety of good value budget accommodation including campsites, huts with communal ablutions, safari tents, cottages and bungalows.
All the main rest camps have electricity, a first-aid centre, a shop, braai (BBQ) area and communal kitchen facilities, a laundromat/laundry tubs, a restaurant and/or self-service cafeteria, public telephones and a petrol station.
There are also special information centres at Letaba, Skukuza and Berg-en-Dal.
The rest camps have a further five satellite camps known as 'bushveld camps'. The 'bushveld camps' are smaller and more remote than the rest camps.
Accommodation must be reserved, and access to the bush camps is restricted to overnight guests.
All units within the bushveld camps have refrigerators, stoves and private bathrooms and toilets. Crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils are also provided.
Almost all of the bush camps have no electricity, so leave those hairdryers at home and prepare to adopt the bush-hair look for the duration of your stay.
There are two unique and completely private bush lodges within the Kruger National Park.
Guests staying at the bush lodges will need to take almost everything with them: the lodges have kitchens equipped with gas stoves, ovens, refrigerators, freezers, and gas barbecues.
The entire lodge must be reserved, and visitors can check in at any main rest camp or gate within the Kruger National Park.
Satara - This a popular and busy rest camp with excellent game viewing opportunities. Satara is the best rest camp for viewing lion, leopard and cheetah.
Olifants - Set on a cliff high above the Olifants River. This rest camp is situated in an environmental transitional zone and the result is an area with two distinct types of vegetation and a wide range of game and birdlife.
Letaba - Located at a sandy bend in the Letaba River, halfway between the southern and northern boundaries of the park offering excellent game viewing (especially if you want to see elephants) and bird-watching opportunities.
