The Kruger National Park is an affordable destination for families and individuals looking for an authentic wilderness experience. The diversity of wildlife and ecology within the Kruger, fused with its rich archaeological and rock art heritage make this a destination that is unparalleled in its significance to African wildlife, culture and history.
Open to the general public, the national park has a 2,600km network of well-maintained tarred and dirt roads that allows visitors to self-explore at their own pace. These roads are easily accessible with a normal saloon car.
The Kruger is perfect for families, who can simply jump in their car and explore the park at their leisure, unencumbered by a fixed itinerary. A drive from the top gate to the bottom gate would take you, at the very least, three days to do comfortably (ideally you would want to do this in two weeks). Simply move from rest camp to rest camp as you explore some of the park's 20-plus eco-zones.
All Kruger National Park accommodation is located within convenient rest camps. Inside these designated areas visitors can camp, caravan or overnight in permanent accommodation that takes the form of huts, cottages and large family chalets.
Additional activities such as night game drives in open-topped landrovers, and walking safaris can be arranged through the rest camps. You can also do your own 4WD trails - simply pre-book through one of the rest camps.
