Kruger National Park » General Information » Weather & Climate

The Kruger National Park is essentially a year-round destination, depending on what you would like to see and do.

Summer in the Kruger (October to March) is characterised by hot humid days and afternoon thunderstorms. Daytime temperatures can get very high, followed by cooler, comfortable nights.

Vegetation is highest and thickest during summer, making game-spotting difficult, but then birdlife is at its most prolific during this period.

Winter brings clear and warm days with cool to chilly evenings. Known as the dry season, winter also brings the animals closer together as they converge on permanent water sources.

Although the southern parts of the Lowveld (roughly from the Sabi Sands area down) are more humid than the rest of the park, the temperature range is less dramatic in this area than in the rest of the Kruger.
