Called the Garden Province, KwaZulu Natal is the easternmost province of South Africa. Its hybrid name is a result of its formation, an amalgamation of the British Colony of Natal and the kingdom of Zululand. It is the most popular tourist destination for three quarters of South Africans, and the home of the Zulu nation.
The province is made up of three geographic areas: the temperate lowlands along the coast of the Indian Ocean, the spectacular Drakensberg mountains in the west and the wild Lebombo mountains in the north. The province is split by the Tugela River, which runs from the west to the Indian Ocean.
