The Midlands Meander is well named. It's worth taking your time in this beautiful part of the province; exploring winding country roads, stopping at potters and antique shops, and tucking into home-cooked meals washed down with a couple of pints of locally-brewed beer.

Most people explore the Natal Midlands on their journey from Durban, through Pietermaritzburg, en route to the Drakensberg. Green fields, tree-lined lanes and small lakes have made many compare the Midlands to the English Cotswolds.

There is a huge variety of accommodation from English-style country inns to luxurious guesthouses offering the ultimate in pampering, like Cleopatra Mountain Farmhouse known for its decadent six-course dinners, or the pampering spa treatments offered by Fordoun.

Wherever you choose to stay though, you can be guaranteed of warm hospitality in a fantastic country setting.
