The geography of KwaZulu Natal
KwaZulu Natal is a coastal province located in the east of South Africa, between Swaziland and Lesotho. The province is split by the Tugela River, which runs from Mpumalanga down to the Indian Ocean.
As you can see from our map of KwaZulu Natal, a national highway (the N2) follows the coast, linking Durban (the country's third largest city) to popular beachside towns on both the North and South Coast.
Many of the province's major attractions lie in the north, including the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve; known for its incredible rhino conservation efforts and home to Africa's Big 5. A short drive away is the Isimangaliso Wetland Park (until recently known as St Lucia), a world heritage site. A second world heritage site, the spear-like peaks of the Drakensberg mountain range, run along the eastern spine of the province.
Near the centre of the KwaZulu Natal map are the Battlefields, famous battle sites where incredible stories are told of the bloody wars fought between British, Zulus and Boers.
