The little Karoo (usually referred to by its Afrikaans equivalent, the Klein Karoo) is the smaller and more southerly of the two Karoo sub-regions. It lies between the Swartberg Mountains in the North, and the Laneberg and Outeniqua Mountains in the South. The regions most prominent town is Oudtshoorn - home to the world's largest Ostrich population.
Other major highlights of the region include the world famous Cango Caves, and the Swartberg Pass - an unpaved route offering beautiful views of the Karoo area from high up in the Swartberg Mountains.
