Named by Scottish miners during the gold rush, the 65-metre Mac Mac Falls of the Panorama Route were a single stream of water until miners used dynamite to change the flow of the river so as to work the gold-rich reef over which the falls plunge.
The seventy metre-high falls were named in commemoration of the many Scottish descendants who died in their obsessive search for gold in this area. Mac Mac, now split into two streams, is a national monument.
