The Mateya Safari Lodge is situated in the spectacular Malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve. This luxurious and exclusive location is ideal for honeymooners and those who would like to have some time away from children (it does not allow any children over the age of 16).
It was built essentially from materials found in the Madikwe Reserve by an ecologically sensitive team of individuals, and the moment you pass through the ancient Zanzibar Elephant Doors you have entered the world of Mateya, which is nestled high in the rocky outcrop of the Gabbro hills. The lodge, which consists of a dining, lounge and relaxation areas, provides an uninterrupted view of the reserve.
The reception, beautifully decorated with original artworks, leads out onto a deck with a view of the reserve and surrounding escarpment. Facilities and amenities include a curio shop, full Internet and email facilities, a surround sound plasma screen audiovisual console where you may enjoy an afternoon of viewing wildlife programs from the available DVD collection or TV, a business centre, gym, the Mateya Gallery and a library, which is home to an invaluably rare collection of works of African literature dating back to the turn of the 19th century. The Bush Boardroom is complete with personal computer and ISDN data facilities.
In celebration of a rich history of diversity and the untamed beauty to which the lodge is home, Mateya has acquired one of the world's finest collections of art from throughout the continent. It is home to 21 original paintings by Paul Augustinus, Robert Glen's bronze sculpture of a lioness attempting to bring down a leaping impala ('Near Miss') as well as several bronze sculptures by Dylan Lewis.
You can be treated to a full range of pleasurable and rejuvenating body treatments by a dedicated health therapist, such as various facial treatments, massages, hot stone therapy, aromatherapy, African head massages, manicures, pedicures, paraffin waxes, reflexology and waxing.
LocationThe Mateya Safari Lodge is situated in the spectacular 75,000 hectare Malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve.
