McGregor is a picture-perfect agricultural village, with whitewashed walls, weathered thatch and pretty gardens and a main road that leads nowhere.

The road comes to an abrupt halt at a spot called Die Galg ('the gallows'), so here you must turn around for a leisurely drive to anywhere else.

Alternatively you can put on your hiking boots and walk the well-trodden path to Greyton - a favourite energetic weekend ramble for Capetonians.
