Nababeep is the largest of the Namaqualand copper mining towns, and rarely visited by passers-by. There's a small museum at Nababeep, which details the copper boom and bust of the town's history.
The mined copper ore was taken by steam train (one of which was 'Clara', a highlight of the museum experience) 175km north to Port Nolloth, until the railway line from Cape Town was extended up to Bitterfontein.
Bitterfontein is considerably further away, and, curiously enough, is still the terminus of the railway line, so everything has to be trucked down to it and then sent on its rail journey.
