Natal Midlands

The Natal Midlands is mostly made up of farmland. People pass by this region on the journey from Durban, through Pietermaritzburg, en route to the Drakensberg.

There's little reason to hang around here. For those so inclined, drive through endless green fields, stop at tea shops, craft stores, or perhaps spend a night in an English-style country inn.

For those wanting to spend some time touring the area, locals have devised the Midlands Meander. The route winds around backroads between Pietermaritzburg and Mooi River and is populated with craft stores, hotels and small attractions. If you're more partial to getting to the Drakensberg as quickly as possible, stick to the N3 highway.
