Just 10km outside of Oudtshoorn, the ostrich capital of the world, is the family farm of Mooiplaas (meaning beautiful farm). This working ostrich farm, which also farms maize and alfalfa, is owned and run by your hosts Viljee and Hanlie Keller, the fourth generation on Mooiplaas.

The guesthouse is converted from an old farm house and still has the traditional facade and typical covered veranda.

Be sure to go on the tour of the farm, where you can get up close to the thousands of ostriches and if you're lucky watch the enormous eggs hatch or hold a fluffy chick. Otherwise you could relax in the shade of the veranda while looking out over the Klein Karoo towards the distant mountain - in between dips in the swimming pool.

Breakfast is a hearty farm style affair served in the sunny breakfast room or out on the covered veranda overlooking the pool.

Dinner[/b] is a three course meal by candle light, ostrich inspired of course or an ostrich braai.

Your hosts will happily recommend and book a restaurant for you in town.

There are 8 large and comfortable, air-conditioned rooms. Each is en-suite, with a lounge area, separate entrance and even covered parking for your car. Each room is equipped with a television, tea and coffee, as well as a bar fridge.

Two of the rooms sleep four people and would suit families or a group of friends traveling together.
