The beautiful 18th century Cape Dutch farmhouse is a national monument and still has many of its original features including a thatched roof, exposed Yellowwood beams and reed ceilings, antique furniture and art. The dining room, originally the old kitchen of the manor house, still has the original oven and fireplace which form part of the character and charm of the homestead.

Rise as early or as late as you please to your choice of fresh filter coffee or tea brought to your room. The members of the Minkley family, who run Roggeland, are always happy to supply maps and advise you on day-trip ideas. These activities include fly or fresh water fishing, bird viewing at the world acclaimed bird sanctuary, horse riding through the Cape fynbos and vineyards or visiting the nearby rose farms. Alternatively, you may simply prefer to take in the view and work on your tan next to the guest house swimming pool.

If you're a wine lover you'll be well placed to explore the many wine estates in the area. Golf enthusiasts will also find themselves spoilt for choice with a number of world-class courses in the area including Paarl (6km) and Erinvale - Somerset West (54km).

Dinner is a 4-course, candlelit affair with carefully selected wines complementing each course. The country cuisine, inspired by the regional produce of Paarl, is varied and balanced. You can be sure of the freshest ingredients as vegetables and herbs used by the chef are grown in the hotel's gardens.

A pre-dinner selection of wines to taste is served under the trees. The relaxed atmosphere provides you with the opportunity to meet the other guests as you sample some great wines.

A choice of superior or standard rooms gives you the option of a large room with bath and freestanding shower or a smaller room with bath and shower combination. Each of the bedrooms has 'riempie' reed or Yellowwood ceilings and deep casement windows with wooden shutters, all features of traditional Cape architecture.

Roggeland Guest House provides many small, special touches such as handmade linen, down duvets, fresh flowers and handmade soaps.

Note that no TV or mini bar facilities are available in any of the rooms.
