Riviersonderend ('river without end') was established in 1923 when Ms Edith McIntyre sold her farm for 6,000 British pounds to the church council, who wanted to establish a local congregation for a Dutch Reformed Church.
The community grew to service the farms in the area, whose main produce is wool, wheat and fruit. When the wheat is ripe and golden, the huge fields appear to sway like treacle in a vat.
Riviersonderend is a small and peaceful farming village with lovely views of the valley by the same name. Its attractions are simple and pure: beautiful wild flowers, fynbos, and fresh air. A nearby golf course and the valley's river are the bases for sporting activities in the area.
