Lion Sands River Lodge has an outstanding location on the banks of the Sabie River, in the southern section of the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, an area well known for its spectacular game viewing. You don't even have to leave the lodge for excellent sightings; it's not uncommon to spot an elephant or giraffe while relaxing in a lounger alongside the swimming pool.

This 'Big 5' safari area is exclusive to guests of Lion Sands, so you won't be stuck with crowds of other vehicles. Lion, elephant, white rhino, leopard, cheetah, buffalo and wild dog are all frequently spotted, and drivers will even take you off road to find some of the rarer animals. Between game viewing activities you can treat yourself to a session at the lodge health spa.

Lion Sands River lodge has been family owned and managed since 1932, and offers the highest standard of service. You get the feeling that the staff are happy to be working there, and take real pride in what they do. Communal area include a gym, well-stocked curio shop and a superb bar overlooking the river.

When staying at River Lodge, you have the opportunity to spend a night at Lion Sands Tree House for an additional cost. A ranger will drop you at the tree house and collect you in the morning. You can spend a night deep in the African wilderness, while still maintaining contact with the lodge via radio.

The food at Lion Sands River Lodge is delicious and plentiful. During your stay you will be offered unique dishes such as 'Zebra & Black Cherry Potjie' or 'Crocodile Kebabs with a Lemon Butter & Apricot Sauce'.

The lodge has both an indoor and open-air (Boma) dining area, or there is also the option of bush breakfasts and dinners. Dining in the bush is a truly unforgettable experience. You are driven to either the river hide, or one of the open plains, where a full table is set and, during your meal, animals animals are often seen wandering by.

Lion Sands River Lodge has 18 luxurious thatched bedrooms, each with a private viewing deck overlooking the Sabie River. The interiors are cream, with a touch of African fabric and wooden carvings, and the large, comfortable beds are draped with white mosquito netting, to ensure a peaceful night's sleep. The bathrooms have pebble-inlaid floors, and both outdoor and inside showers.
