Mala Mala was the first privately owned game reserve in South Africa with eco-tourism as an alternative to hunting. Mala Mala Main Camp, set in beautiful surroundings amid shady trees and manicured lawns on the banks of the Sand River, is still one of South Africa's most well known and best loved safari destinations.
Mala Mala is a classic, comfortable camp with traditional safari-style decor including original bronzes, works of art and animal trophies mounted on the walls. The spacious buffalo lounge leads onto an expansive wooden deck, where you can spend a relaxing afternoon watching giraffe, elephant and buffalo come to the river to drink.
The area is known for its fantastic wildlife viewing. It is common for guests to see all of the 'Big Five', the most sought after and dangerous of the world's big game; as well as cheetah, wild dog and an incredible variety of birds. In addition to game drives, you can go on guided walks , to learn more about the vegetation of smaller animals of the bush.
In accordance with the reserve's conservation policies, there is a maximum of 36 guests staying at any time.
LocationMala Mala Main Camp is situated in Mala Mala Private Game Reserve in the north-eastern part of South Africa in the province of Mpumalanga, sharing a border of over 19km with the Kruger National Park.
