Sedgefield is a serene little seaside town with a beautiful lagoon perfect for canoeing or swimming in. Quiet and safe, it is situated between Knysna and George and lies in the heart of the Garden Route.
The diverse ecosystem and estuary make for superb birdwatching and excellent fishing, but it's worth bearing author, TV Bulpin's description of Sedgefield in mind when planning a day's activities: "Sedgefield has inactivity as its most considerable industry," the man said and it's definitely the kind of place to induce a sense of relaxation.
The beautiful dark waters of the Swartvlei lake system form a huge S-bend as they laze their way to the sea. The lower, meandering portion is known as Sedgefield Lagoon and a restful holiday town has grown on its eastern banks.
