Lovely for honeymooners, the thatched, ethnically decorated Lobengula Lodge is tucked deep into the valley bushveld and gives one that distinctive Colonial experience.

After a game drive you can relax, swim or enjoy a drink at the sunken pool bar in the lovely pool area. In fact, the lodge has two pool areas - one on the lawns and the other, more private and out of sight of the lodge, surrounded by aloes. The wooden deck overlooks the dense African bush and provides a great location for having meals or listening to mystical African storytelling in front of the fireplace.

The malaria free 20 000 hectares Shamwari Game Reserve is a private game reserve which has received numerous international awards, including the World's Leading Conservation Company and Game Reserve for five consecutive years. It forms a natural extension to the famous Garden Route and has five eco-systems, thus enabling the support of many forms of plant, animal and birdlife.

The Born Free Foundation is at the forefront of drawing the public's attention to the plight of wild animals confined in impoverished captive environments and promoting a humane agenda through education and public awareness.

Lobengula Lodge is situated in verdant bush along the Bushmans River, halfway between Port Elizabeth (45 minutes drive outside the city) and Grahamstown, in the Eastern Cape.

Lobengula Lodge serves meals either on the main deck or in the outside boma, which can be complemented by a selection of fine South African wines from the lodge's cellar.

The 5 large luxury rooms are en-suite, with air-conditioning and heating, whilst the Chief suite has a large private lounge with a fireplace and pool.

Rooms have romantic roofed beds. Privacy is more limited than the other Shamwari lodges, as views are over a common area.
