Sodwana Bay was named after an isolated stream known to the local tribes as Sodwana ('little one on its own'). Sodwana Bay National Park consists of a narrow coastal strip of forest-covered sand dunes.

The park was proclaimed in 1950 and is an angler's paradise. It is a fairly remote area, but people come from far and wide to dive the fabulous coral reefs, which are teeming with colourful fish as well as some giants of the sea such as whale sharks and manta rays.

Camping out in the hot, tropical summer or the warm winter of the Sodwana region is a lovely way to spend a holiday.
