The park-like Southbroom was established by Alfred Eyles, a young English missionary. After his death, his two sons carried on the development of Southbroom. Their intention was that it should develop slowly and naturally so the beauty of the area would be preserved.
Southbroom has a secluded beach with safe, shark-protected swimming and a sheltered lagoon at the mouth of the Mkobi River. There is also a large, calm area and two warm tidal pools ideal for swimming.
