d'Ouwe Werf Herberg is the oldest existing inn in South Africa and was built on the site of South Africa's first church, of which remnants can still be seen in a room beneath the kitchen.
The Georgian entrance sets the tone for the interior, where original woodwork and antiques combine with soft colours, lending the inn an elegant air. Declared a national monument, d'Ouwe Werf is a well preserved example of Stellenbosch's rich history.
The private courtyard, with a heated swimming pool, is a serene setting, either to relax before a busy day exploring the surrounding Winelands, or unwind once you have returned.
