With its entrance gate only 15km from Sun City, The Pilanesberg Game Reserve offers the quintessential safari experience.
The reserve is home to all members of the Big Five, and most of the mammals found in Southern Africa inhabit this area. Sun City guests often pop out to spend a day or two in the Pilanesberg.
Within Sun City the only dangerous animals to be found are the infamous Nile crocodiles of the Lost City Golf Course. This deadly float of 40-odd crocodiles lurks on the 13th hole, giving new meaning to the term water hazard.
Within the resort area a number of primates swing about, and every so often a guest at the Cascades Hotel will spot a mini-Tarzan swinging casually past their window.
You'll want to close windows and sliding doors when you leave your room at the Cascades, as you may come home to a monkey holidaying in your hotel room.
Close to the Sun City entrance is the Kwena Crocodile Sanctuary. This is a fun, short outing for the whole family.
As you observe these magnificent predators, you can safely indulge in the thrilling fear they evoke as you watch them float lazily and then suddenly snap and scatter with lightning speed.
