South Africa's famous Gary Player Golf Course features an 18-hole golf course with a par of 72.
The Gary Player Country Club course is home to the prestigious Nedbank Golf Challenge (what used to be the Million Dollar Golf Challenge) and the course is as beautiful as it is demanding.
Back in 1981, the Golf Challenge was the first such event to offer US$1 million in prize money. Today the prize money is well over $4 million and counting. As a result it's attracted the golfing world's legends - Tiger Woods, Ernie Els, Seve Ballesteros, Nick Price, Retief Goosen, Vijay Singh and Lee Westwood are just some of the big names who've played here.
The course lives up to the glamour though: one of the toughest in Africa it offers players an excellent challenge, and provides spectators with excellent viewing.
The course is immaculate with wide kikuyu grass fairways and bent greens. With little rough, and many trees and streams, this typical parkland course is fairly flat. The many water hazards, sneaky bunkers and hidden pin placement make up for the lack of gradient.
This course also cuts through the African bush, creating a wonderful contrast of manicured fairways framed by wild bushveld.
