Hidden down a leafy residential road but within walking distance of the town's major attractions and restaurants, is the aptly named, The Hideaway.

An original Victorian building decorated with family photos, antiques and homely furniture opens onto a beautifully tended garden, complete with an extensive rose garden. Choose a shady spot to curl up on a sun lounger, or sip a cool glass of wine under the vine leaves.

After a busy day exploring the historic town or tasting the wine grown in the area, cool off in The Hideaway's indoor plunge pool situated in the garden. The pool is solar-heated to guarantee a comfortable temperature.

In the evening join your hosts and fellow guests for a complimentary glass of locally produced wine, either in the cosy lounge or the sheltered garden. This is also a time for swapping stories and planning your activities for the day ahead with your helpful hosts.

There are a number of excellent restaurants within walking distance of The Hideaway - but near or far Mark is more than willing to give lifts to Swellendam's restaurants.

There are 4 garden rooms at The Hideaway each named for a rose that grows in Diana's rose garden and one room located in the Victorian homestead, although it too opens onto the pretty garden.

Each air-conditioned room is richly decorated with handcrafted furniture made from indigenous wood and contains thoughtful gestures such as homemade shortbread, a bottle of muscadel liqueur and a belly-button warmer in case you forgot yours.
