Royal Natal National Park was proclaimed in 1916, and contains some of the most spectacular scenery in Africa. The main feature of the area is the Amphitheatre, a rock wall about 5km in length and approximately 500m in height.
Thendele Hutted Camp is situated in one of the most picturesque settings in the country, with a view of the world famous Amphitheatre from every bungalow. The camp nestles below the brooding sandstone cliffs of Dooley, among yellowwood forests and protea savannah. After a fierce summer thunderstorm, visitors can often hear the rumble of boulders in the Thukela river below.
The area is home to the Bearded Vulture (Lammergeyer) and Black Eagle who can often be seen gliding the thermals that rise above the Mont aux Sources plateau. The surrounding valleys and ridges also offer superb walks through an ever-changing landscape with many upland birds and flowers.
