During whale season in South Africa, which runs roughly between June and November every year, the Whale Coast, and particularly Walker Bay, practically teems with mating, breeding and calving whales.
Whale Season is when people flock to the vibrant town of Hermanus for the famous Whale Festival and for what is said to be the best land-based whale-watching. Whale-watching boat trips also leave Hermanus to give a different perspective on these gentle giants.
De Kelders, further along the coast towards Gansbaai, also offers superb whale-watching vantage points on the cliffs above Walker Bay. Cliff Lodge in De Kelders offers superb whale-watching from its balcony.
In fact, during whale season, whales can be spotted from almost anywhere along the most southern coast of South Africa.
On the Whale Coast, South Africa you can enjoy whale-watching from the shore, from a boat and even from the air. Or you could just lie awake listening to the whales sing you to sleep.
