The Sun International brand was started by South Africa's luxury hotel and casino magnate Sol Kerzner, with the development of South Africa's premier holiday resort: Sun City. Work began on Sun City in 1979, and it took over 10 years to create the holiday playground it is today with four hotels, a man-made lake, 2 Gary Player golf courses, an artificial beach and wavepool, mini zoo and a massive entertainment centre with restaurants, games and casinos.

This winning formula was then used in other top destinations, and today Sun International has 27 hotels, casinos, resorts and spas across Southern Africa. A couple of Sun International's top properties include the iconic Royal Livingstone Hotel, on the banks of the Zambezi River just upstream of Victoria Falls, and the Table Bay Hotel right at the heart of South Africa's most popular tourist attraction: the V&A Waterfront.
