Swaziland, although small in size, thrives with wildlife thanks to the diversity of its terrain. Many of the iconic large African mammals like the Big 5 are all in attendance, although many of them had to be re-introduced to the country by conservationists.

In 1995 the Mkhaya Reserve obtained six black rhino from South Africa through international aid, a move that was celebrated as a turning point in international efforts to protect endangered animals. In 1997, two elephants were the first to be born on Swazi soil in one hundred years.

Lion, elephant, rhino, zebra, giraffe, warthog, crocodile, hippo, warthog, and many antelope species can all be found scattered around the Swazi bushveld in the various game parks.

Tracking rhino is a must do in Hlane Royal National Park, while the resident hippos in Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary are a popular tourist attraction.
