Swaziland's vegetation varies from open grassland to forest, and from semi-arid savanna to subtropical mountain.
The western border comprises of mountains, rivers, and waterfalls, with rolling grassland dotted with trees. Moving east, the region engulfing Manzini is called the Middleveld. This area is made up of rolling grasslands and fertile valleys.
East of Manzini, the landscape is acacia bushveld; this extends east to the Mkhaya Nature Reserve. From here, the Lowveld area is dryer and hotter, dominated by grasslands and thorn trees, typical of the African bush.
The subtropical vegetation can be found on the Lebombo Mountain Range, close to the eastern border with Mozambique. There are currently 25 endemic plant species within Swaziland.
