At the entrance to the Highlands, midway between Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater, 5km from the village of Karatu, is Gibb's Farm. The farm is an oasis of green, calm and beauty, in a landscape that can often be parched, dry and dusty.

Coffee is grown, processed and roasted on the farm and a 10-acre fruit and organic vegetable garden provides nearly all the fruit and vegetables to the guests, who wake up to fresh coffee, a multitude of flowers and breathtaking views. The main facilities, consisting of a sitting room, reading room, dining room, bar and gift shop, are situated in the old-colonial farmhouse.

Activities include guided walks to the top of a nearby waterfall to view caves made by elephants. For bird lovers, Gibb's Farm and its surrounds are home to over 200 species. Informative and personalised walks can be arranged with one of the local naturalists. Tour the farm's flower and large vegetable gardens, or take a leisurely stroll among the coffee fields. With coffee production being the major heritage of the farm, you are welcomed to watch the daily roasting which takes place on the patio.

Other activities include visits to a traditional home of the local Iraqw tribe, or watch a local woodcarver at work, or visit Tloma Primary School for a glimpse of the rural school system. Being highly environmentally and socially aware, Gibb's Farm practices many recycling methods and supports community development through a variety of local projects.
