Phillip Briggs, in his excellent guide "East and Southern Africa - The Backpackers Manual" (Bradt Books) has the following to say about Dodoma.
"Aside from being the correct answer to a potential Trivial Pursuit question (how many of us could name the capital city of Tanzania?) there is really very little to be said about Dodoma, except to note that any plan which involves bussing there from anywhere but Dar es Salaam should instantly be dismissed as a bad idea. Unless you're on some sort of esoteric quest that involves 'collecting' capital cities, Dodoma is eminently missable."
Briggs recommends the Dodoma Hotel and the Kilimanjaro Villa Guesthouse as possible lodgings in Dodoma. One of the only other distinguishing characteristics of Dodoma (besides being the nominal capital) is that this is one of the only places in East Africa where wine is made. The most charitable thing that can be said about Dodoma Red, White and Rose is that they travel well - provided you don't leave town.
