• Chimpanzee Tracking - Gombe is the location of Dr. Jane Goodall's internationally acclaimed research centre & home to a population of around 100 Chimpanzees.

• Step Back Into History - take some time to explore the historic town of Kigoma, home to the 'Ha' tribe and famous for its dagaa fishing and palm oil, as well as being the place where an emissary was sent to trace the whereabouts of the great Dr. Livingstone.

Gombe Stream National Park extends over mountainous terrain climbing from the shores of Lake Tanganyika to the top of the rift escarpment. Your safari begins at Kigoma Town with a boat journey, passing through fishing villages and scenic hills before reaching the park.

The tented camp is on the shore of the Mitumba stream, with a spacious white sandy beach and big shady trees. The small reception area under a thatched roof also accommodates a library, information centre, curio shop, bar and lounge. The kitchen and staff area is a short distance from the camp so as not to interfere with the sights and sounds of nature.

Chimpanzee tracking is the main attraction at Gombe. Your guide usually starts at the area where the chimps nested the previous night and it can take from half an hour to 3 hours to track them down. After a strenuous day of climbing you can relax on your deck or beside a campfire on the beach for sundowners and re-energising for your next adventure.

In addition to chimpanzees, the park also has more than 200 species of birds and the lake is teeming with fish. Other activities on offer include climbing to the 2 spectacular waterfalls found within the park, walking on the beach, swimming, fishing and snorkelling. It is also possible to visit local fishing villages close to the park and get 1st hand experience of life in a typical African village.

Breakfasts are American style with an emphasis on tropical fruits and juices, while lunches and dinners are 3-course affairs with food from around the world. The dining area is set on a raised wooden deck just a few metres from Lake Tanganyika.

The spacious tents face Lake Tanganyika on raised wooden platforms and are adequately spaced to ensure privacy. Decorated in a distinct African style with locally produced furniture, you definitely feel like you are on safari.
