Chada Katavi is situated in the heart of Katavi National Park, in western Tanzania. Reputed to be one of the wildest places on earth, it remains undiscovered and very definitely off the beaten track. From its elevated vantage point Chada Katavi offers a stylish, classy and comfortable camp, perfectly positioned for panoramic views over the Chada plain.

This remarkable area has two vastly distinct seasons, the June to October dry season where the river starts to dry up and the wildlife all clamour for a spot at the watering hole. From mid-November to early June the first rains transform the landscape from dry, cracked earth to lush green grasses and flowing rivers.

Named after a legendary hunter called Katabi, Katavi was established in 1974 and is one of the most remote, vast, natural and pristine parks in Africa. The canopy of acacias, kigelias and tamarinds at Chada Katavi are a popular source of shade and food for the abundant bird and animal species that inhabit the region, creating excellent game viewing opportunities without you even having to leave the camp.

Game abounds on the valleys, forests and plains, home to huge concentrations of hippo and crocodile, as well as the last great herds of buffalo in East Africa. You can choose from game drives in open 4-wheel drive vehicles, walking with an armed guide, fly camping out for the night under the stars or simply enjoying soaking it all up from your tent veranda.

Children under the age of 8 years are not accepted. Fly camping and walking activities are available to children aged 12 and over.

Dinner time at Chada Katavi is a simple, yet elegant affair, with silverware and gleaming glasses set on a long dining table, so everyone tends to eat together.

As with many small bush camps, the food is delicious, hearty and highly rated. Lavish picnic breakfasts, brunches and lunches laid out under shady trees may await you on your return from a morning's game viewing.

Accommodation is deliberately simple. Sitting among trees, Chada Katavi offers 6 spacious walk-in tents, each with 2 twin beds or a double bed, and fine furnishings such as crisp white Egyptian cottons on the bed, and thick rugs on the floor.

Each tent has a private bathroom with safari toilets, and bucket showers hanging from a bush behind each tent with ample piping-hot water. Washstands, with pitchers of hot and cold water are set at the front of each tent.

With a maximum of 12 guests in camp at any time, you are guaranteed as much privacy and isolation as you wish.
